L Locus, long hair, short hair
LLOK
The L locus affects the length of the hair coat of dogs due to a DNA variant in the FGF5 gene. The variant causes that a hair growth in the follicle is not stopped, so dogs develop longer hair. Long hair is inherited autosomal recessively – dogs with long hair must inherit this variant on both alleles of the gene.
