Hereditary Cataract

Early onset cataracts, Juvenile cataracts

HC

Hereditary cataract is a disease affecting the lens of the eye in which the lens gradually becomes cloudy. Some breeds (Boston Terriers, French Bulldogs or Staffordshire Bull Terriers) suffer from the juvenile form, in which clinical signs appear within the first year of life. Cataracts cause blurred vision and when the entire lens becomes cloudy, can cause blindness.
