Progressive Retinal Atrophy rcd4

Rod-Cone Dysplasia 4

PRA-RCD4

Progressive Retinal Atrophy rcd4 is an eye disease that is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner. The disease leads to degeneration of retinal photoreceptor cells in dog. Clinically, the disease is manifested by a disturbance of dark vision, visual field defects, and abnormalities in the electroretinogram. The disease can progress to blindness. There is no cure for PRA, and only way to prevent it, is to breed a sire and a dam which are not carriers of the mutation.
