The Shetland Sheepdog, or Sheltie, is a small, elegant and exceptionally intelligent herding dog originating from Scotland’s Shetland Islands. Its appearance may suggest a miniature Rough Collie, but the Sheltie is much more than a “pocket-sized Collie” – it has its own personality, plenty of energy and a strong working instinct. Shelties are deeply devoted, sensitive and attentive to their families, while they may initially be reserved with strangers. Quick to learn and eager to cooperate, they often excel in agility, obedience and other dog sports. They are also excellent watchdogs and are usually happy to announce anything important – and sometimes anything at all – with their voice.
